A suggested plan for implementation:
- Year One: 3 in 8th grade, 2 in 7th grade, 1 in 6th grade
- Year Two: Purchase two more sets (one in 7th grade, one in 8th grade)
- Year Three: Purchase two more sets (one in 7th, one in 6th)
- Year Four: Purchase two more sets (two in 6th)
Also, I need to put together a team for implementation when we start rolling our the Navs next year. Any volunteers for the following jobs:
- Equipment purchase and installation
- Testing
- Training (I figure we can all train our grade level?)
- Evaluating
I thought that instead of 1 in 6th grade we decided we would put 4 in 8th grade. The next year we would fill out 7th grade and then finish with 6th grade. This way the students We need to find the computers that have the navigator software already loaded and give those to the targeted teachers. This way they can start to prepare some lessons over the summer.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it makes more sense to build down so that we don't teach the kids how to use this great technology, then take it away from them. At the same time, if there are 6th grade teachers who are excited about using the Navigators, it may be worth the headache of doing some scheduling work to feed some kids into a 7th grade group with the tech from a 6th grade class. It will help that 7th grade teacher to have some kids who are already trained and keep the kids going. However, it would also mean that the 6th grade teacher would be creating all of the lessons on his/her own, which is always difficult to do amidst all of our other responsibilities. Maybe we should check with Dr. Grundy to see if it's even possible to schedule teams to flow together, or if that isn't even a challenge we can tackle.
ReplyDeleteI think it is wise to spend year one training on the Navigator with those already purchased. Once we increase our knowledge base, it makes sense to expand. The financial piece is more manageable over time.
ReplyDeleteOk then, I will change it to 4 in 8th grade. I think it's a good idea, I just didn't want 6th grade to feel left out. Karen, what do you think? Do you think it will be too hard to develop lessons on your own? Implement 8th and 7th first, then 6th?
