6/14/10
Dina and Julie inventoried sets and passed out laptops to certain teachers to make sample lessons.

Meeting 6/8/10 - Final meeting (last week of school)
Attendance:  Dina, Amy, Julie, Rob, Kim, Tim

Agenda and Notes:
1)  Safeguarding and Policies
  • Include district AUP.
  • In class syllabus/letter, have parents and students sign a notice about acceptable use of TI Nav. system.
    • I _____ will use the calculators as directed by my teacher and not cause damage to the calculator.  I will also be responsible when using the calculators and report any type of damage to my teacher.  (signature line for parent and student)
2)  Follow-up Plan
  • This is the last week of school.  We will resume meetings during the first teacher week in August.
  • During school clean-up in June, inventory existing sets and test them to assure they are working properly.  Lock in a safe place immediately.
  • Teachers will take home laptops and create lessons/assessment questions to share in August.
  • Kim-make sure all laptops have Navigator software (see district).
  • Order extra sets of calculators in June for use in August.
  • In August, be prepared to share lessons, install sets in classroom, test again, and begin to train staff.

Meeting 6/2/10
Attendance:  Dina, Julie, Kim, Karen, Kathryn

Agenda and Notes:
1)  Formed Implementation Team
  • Dina will be Implementation Project Manager.
  • See wikispaces for details.
2)  Implementation Plan
  • Year One will be mostly training and test runs of the 6 sets we have.
  • Summer plan:  develop sample lessons.  When we return in August, share ideas and create sample 7th and 8th grade lessons to use.  Distribute sets in August for full integration on day one of school.
  • Use the system as an ice-breaker for the kids.
3)  Steering Committee
  • Some remaining members of committee will be in steering committee.
  • Also ask Jenn Burlew (co-chair for math dept.).  She may be interested now that her job title is changing.
  • Include assistant principal, possibly?
  • Dina will ask them this week.

Meeting 5/25/10
Attendance:  Dina, Rob, Julie, Karen, Kim, Amy

Agenda and Notes:
1) Outcomes of Plan
  • Approximately 4 years for full implementation in all math classes.
  • Start with 3 8th grade teachers, 2 7th grade, one 6th grade; each year add 2 more sets.
  • Ideas included:  Have all math teachers use system on a regular basis, encourage students to become 21st century learners, have teachers develop sound assessments and engaging lessons, encourage responsible use of technology.
2) Cost and Budget
  • TI Navigator systems were priced along with the following:
    • Graphing calculators, media carts (w/ laptop, projector, document viewer)
  • Professional development will be done in-house.  Many teachers attended a summer training last year and are now qualified to train other staff = no cost!
  • Installation is free.
  • Other costs include batteries for calculators, bulbs for projectors, and replacement wires?
3) Funding Sources
  • Most funding will have to come from grants.
  • Grants have been written many times by Julie and Amy, so no problem there.
  • Calculators and batteries can probably come from math department budget.
  • Title One money - Amy is looking into.
    • Per Amy, Title One money can be used as long as it is written in the School Success Plan.  She will write it in to secure funding for possibly all four years. :-)
    • Amy also commented that we can use school improvement funds.  Every year, she writes the School Improvement Grant.  She will also write it in this grant to secure funds.
    • It seems like the Navigator systems will be fully funded over a four-year period.
  • Procurement and Vendors:
    • Math uses EAI Education for calculators and Navigators.  Type a purchase order and submit to secretary.
    • To order media carts, a purchase order needs to be typed and sent to the district technology dept.  They will then find quotes.
4) Current and Needed Technology
  • Possibly will need to upgrade 2 sets of seventh grade calculators. (qty. 80 calcs).
  • All teachers have access to a media cart, but will have to share.
  • Include in budget 2 more media carts, 2 sets of graphing calcs, and 6 more sets of Navigators.

Meeting 5/19/10
Attendance:  All

Agenda and Notes:
1) Technology Needs (why not use what we have)
  • Committee agrees that the best idea is to integrate the six Navigator systems into the math classrooms.  One set is currently being used in grade 8.
  • SMARTboards were discussed, but Amy notified us that she may place more orders in the future, so there is no need for this type of plan.  Plus, many teachers already have these.
2) Plan (TI Navigators)
  • The plan will be to integrate the Navigator systems into six math classrooms at different grade levels.
  • Eventually, our goal is to get a set for each math teacher.
  • Lots of training will be needed.  Kim and Tim posted that teachers will be reluctant to try it out unless there is specific training or sample lessons.
  • Possible PD plan:
    • Committee loads software on all laptops - develops sample lessons - trains other staff during PLC time? - staff implements lessons - meet back and share information/reflect - develop more lessons together  - purchase more sets
3) Survey questions and ideas
  • Survey will be given to all Gauger math teachers (including special ed).
  • Simple yes/no format - everyone is super busy this time of year.
4) Vision statement
  • The vision statement (draft) posted seems to work for all members.  The common consensus was that assessment should be included and maybe something about feedback.
  • Research was shared that TI conducted.  There seems to be much evidence that the Navigator system increases engagement and student understandings.
