School's out....but not for me

Since school is over, I know you all will be checking the blog everyday over the summer....haha. If you want to keep up with my progress, check out the wiki (http://tinavigatorplan.wikispaces.com/).
When we return in August, I would like to:
  1. Meet on the first day back.
  2. Distribute the Navigator systems immediately and begin the training as soon as possible, as discussed before.
  3. Share the plan with the math department (and maybe the whole school) during our welcome meeting.

Also, please keep in mind ideas about these topics:
  • copyrights when borrowing ideas for lessons
  • monthly professional development (at PLC's)
  • how to increase teacher buy-in
Happy summer!

What will this look like?

After looking at the results of the survey, we decided that since most staff are interested, we will push forward with the Navigator plan!

A suggested plan for implementation:
  • Year One:  3 in 8th grade, 2 in 7th grade, 1 in 6th grade
  • Year Two:  Purchase two more sets (one in 7th grade, one in 8th grade)
  • Year Three:  Purchase two more sets (one in 7th, one in 6th)
  • Year Four:  Purchase two more sets (two in 6th)
Any more comments about the plan?

Also, I need to put together a team for implementation when we start rolling our the Navs next year.  Any volunteers for the following jobs:
  • Equipment purchase and installation
  • Testing
  • Training (I figure we can all train our grade level?)
  • Evaluating

The Technology Plan and Vision

Hi all committee members! We have discussed the possible plan for the TI Navigator implementation and some goal ideas, but I need some more information.

1) How will the TI Navigators help students in math?  What goals do we have when using the TI system?

2) Help me develop a vision statement:

(Draft) Increase student engagement and interactions in math class by utilizing the Navigator system. Provide differentiated activities and assessment strategies using the Navigator system to increase student engagement and achievement in mathematics. (Research: The effective use of the TI-Navigator system helps students succeed in Algebra more than graphing calculators alone, by improving conceptual understanding, engagement and time on task. -TI website).

3)  Why might teachers be reluctant to use the Navigator system?
